Insights from Everyday Moviegoers

Garrett Evans on Dune Part 2

"Wow Dune 2 was a masterpiece. Seriously the story is amazing and the world is so intriguing, but I could watch both of them muted and still be entertained. It’s one of the most beautifully shot movies I’ve ever seen. I encourage everyone to watch them just for the cinematography. I highly recommend seeing it in theaters."

Hannah Gore on Dune Part 2

Stellar sound design and visuals. The color palette was absolutely unmatched!!!

"Dune Part 2" is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2021 science fiction epic "Dune," directed by Denis Villeneuve. The film is based on the second half of Frank Herbert's novel "Dune" and continues the story of Paul Atreides as he navigates the complex political landscape of the desert planet Arrakis.

The cast of "Dune Part 2" includes Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Zendaya as Chani, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

The crew behind "Dune Part 2" includes Denis Villeneuve returning as director, with Hans Zimmer composing the score, Greig Fraser as cinematographer, and Joe Walker as editor.

The film promises to continue the stunning visuals, complex characters, and intricate world-building that made the first installment a critical and commercial success. Fans of the novel can expect a faithful adaptation that delves deeper into the themes of power, destiny, and environmentalism that are central to the "Dune" universe.

Davis Farlow on The Spaceman:

I thought The Spaceman did a very good job at capturing the tone of hopelessness and loneliness, but outside of that, I think it falls short in several areas. The ending seemed muddy, and it left a lot to still be resolved, but it almost seemed like that was the intention, so when you watch it for yourself, remember that it is a story about human beings and human problems, which are rarely easily resolved within a feature-length timeframe.

Spaceman is a 2024 American science fiction drama film directed by Johan Renck and written by Colby Day. It is based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. Starring Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Isabella Rossellini, and Paul Dano. It follows an astronaut sent on a mission to the edge of the solar system who encounters a creature that helps him resolve his earthly problems.

Spaceman premiered at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on February 21, 2024, and received a limited theatrical release on February 23, 2024 before its streaming debut by Netflix on March 1, 2024.

Davis Farlow on the 2024 Oscars:

I think that Barbie was snubbed long before the night of the awards ceremony. I'm still at a loss for why Greta Gerwig was not nominated for Best Director, and why Robbie was not nominated for Best Lead Actress. I feel as if the Academy made a mistake when they considered what this movie represents and was only able to see it on a surface level

Fisher Jones is an incredibly talented filmmaker from Dyersburg, Tennessee, whose passion for visual storytelling is genuinely inspiring. He has been chosen as one of the filmmakers in focus for an upcoming issue of a newsletter, and he shared some captivating insights about his background and his love of filmmaking.

Fisher's filmmaking journey began during middle school when he made YouTube videos as a hobby. However, it was when he took a narrative film summer class in high school that he realized his love for narrative filmmaking. After watching "Whiplash" that summer, he knew he wanted to be behind the camera.

Currently, Fisher works in the commercial side of filmmaking. Although he enjoys his work, his heart lies in cinematography and camera work. He dreams of starting an independent production house where he can help independent filmmakers, music artists, and small business owners bring their visions to life. His commitment to helping others achieve their creative visions is truly inspiring, showing his selflessness and dedication to the art of filmmaking.

When asked about the kind of stories he wants to tell, Fisher replied that he'd love to tell stories about the human condition, and how people aren't inherently good or bad, but molded by their surroundings. He believes that storytelling is a powerful medium that can help people connect with each other and empathize with perspectives different from their own. His deep empathy and understanding of the human experience are evident in his work, making it relatable and impactful.

Fisher draws inspiration from Casey Neistat, a successful filmmaker and YouTuber who made it work despite being a single teen dad with a passion for film. Fisher admires Neistat's ability to be resourceful and creative, even when facing difficult circumstances.

In his free time, Fisher loves to watch and make movies. He's also an avid gamer and anime enthusiast, and he believes that his hobbies help him stay creative and inspired.

When asked about what keeps him pushing and creating, Fisher shared that the feeling of stagnation is what motivates him to keep going. He believes that creativity is a muscle that needs to be exercised regularly, and that pushing himself out of his comfort zone is the best way to grow as a filmmaker. His resilience and determination are truly inspiring, showing that with passion and hard work, one can overcome any obstacle in their path.

Overall, Fisher Jones is an exceptional filmmaker committed to telling stories that reflect the beauty and complexity of the human experience. His dedication to his craft and his desire to help others achieve their creative visions make him an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers and artists everywhere. We look forward to seeing what he accomplishes in the future as he continues to push the boundaries of independent filmmaking.
